# Disconnecting the receiving account — what happens next

> What stops immediately, what stays valid and why switching accounts needs one extra precaution.

## What you will get

Deciding safely whether to disconnect — and knowing what will happen in the
next minute.

There are three legitimate reasons to do it: **switching accounts**, **redoing
a connection that stopped working** and **shutting down** the billing
operation.

## What stops immediately

- No new charge is issued, by hand or by the overnight routine.
- The 06:00 routine starts skipping your whole school, silently.
- Installments keep being created, and sit at **Awaiting issuance** in the
  student portal.

## What stays valid

**Charges already issued stay standing.** The boletos in your students' hands
remain payable, and payments keep landing in the account that issued them.

What is lost is the way back: without a connection, EduPay may not be told the
student paid. During that period, payments have to be recorded by hand.

**That is why the screen warns you before letting you go ahead:** *"Disconnect
Stripe account? Ongoing charges may be affected."*

## Step by step

**1. Open `Integrations › Payment Gateway`.**

**2. Click Disconnect**, on the right of the footer. It is the only button on
the screen with a red border.

**3. Confirm in the browser dialog.**

## How to know it worked

> [certo]
> `Integração Stripe desconectada.` appears at the top, the badge returns to
> **Not configured** and the box shrinks: only the explanation and the
> **Connect Stripe account** button remain.
>
> **Whoever administers the account also receives an email** about the
> disconnection, with the path to reconnect. That is deliberate — a
> disconnection nobody notices turns into a month with no billing.

## Switching accounts needs care

Disconnecting and connecting another account works, but keep this in mind:
**charges issued by the old account stay tied to it**. Their money lands there,
not in the new account.

If the switch is permanent, the clean path is:

1. Let the old account's open charges expire, or cancel them.
2. Disconnect.
3. Connect the new account.
4. Reissue the installments left without a charge.

## If something goes wrong

> [erro]
> **I disconnected by mistake.** Just connect again, choosing the same account.
> Nothing was deleted on the money side.
>
> **I disconnected and installments still show the old boleto.** That is
> correct: an issued charge is not deleted by disconnecting.
>
> **The Disconnect button does not appear.** Your account is a team account.
